Driving and walking through the streets of Salvador, I have seen people playing soccer left and right. On grass fields, in muddy yards, on the sand at the beach and on concrete at the parks, people of all ages can be found playing a game of pickup wherever we go. Walking separately from the tour group, a few others and I stumbled upon a game of soccer being played on the beach in Barra.

Being the soccer enthusiast that I am, I decided to stay and watch them for about ten minutes. What I felt there as I sat in Brazil –thousands of miles away from California, yet feeling completely at home — was nothing short of magnificent.

There were people of all ages and sizes out to enjoy the beautiful weather and simply have a good time working out. I especially loved that kids of all ages were watching as more of the older boys and men played. Soccer is definitely a passion passed on down the generations in this country, and I think that that is such a beautiful thing.

Soccer is such a big and important part of the Brazilian people and who they are as a country, and to witness where it all begins was such an incredible moment.

I have videos but they won’t upload! Sorry!
The dynamic of people playing here was so heartwarming, and you could truly feel the genuine happiness and passion that everybody had for the sport. It was a moment that I will never forget.
