THE STRAYS OF BRAZIL

One thing that I have noticed traveling a lot around the streets of Brazil is the high amount stray dogs and cats walking around. While we have strays back home in the United States, I have never seen quite so many in such concentrated areas. Almost everywhere that we went or drove, we would pass several at a time. There were more dogs more so than cats in my own personal experience, and as a dog lover, it has been truly disheartening to see.

Most of the dogs as you can see are usually lying around on the side of the streets. Most times, I have seen them covered in fleas and exhausted from the hot sun. Either way, they did not look happy and it was really painful to see. I think that this is a reflection of the economy here in Brazil and how, unfortunately, there are not enough funds to help get strays off of the street.

The picture that truly hit home, however, and showed the extent of the issue at hand, is this pictured I captured below while passing in our tour bus.

There were a total of ten dogs on this one street corner alone (not all pictured above)

Hopefully this is a problem that will improve over the near years to come.
